At Cardinal Fencing Club (CFC), we are on a mission to develop young athletes into champions—both on and off the fencing strip. We provide top-tier coaching, foster sportsmanship, and promote the Olympic sport of fencing throughout the San Jose Metro Area.
Mr.Pogosov is the Co-Head Coach of the Stanford University Men’s and Women’s Fencing Teams. He is the Head Coach of the Cardinal Fencing Center.
His athletic accomplishments are too numerous to mention and include 1992 Olympic Team Champion, 7 times Team World Champion, Individual Junior World Champion, Individual World Championship Silver Medalist, 1988 Olympic Team Silver Medalist, and many times World Cup Champion. He has more than 22 years of experience as a fencer and 25 years of experience as a coach.
George has a Master’s Degree in Physical Education with a focus in Fencing from Ukrainian National University of Physical Education and Sports in Kiev.
Mr. Pogosov studied the art of fencing under David A. Tyshler (The Father of Soviet Sabre), Mihail L. Shimshovich (his first Coach), Vladimir A. Nazlymov (recognized as the Greatest Sabre Fencer of the XX Century), and Lev Kuznetsov.
George is an expert coach in all three weapons, and easily adapts from beginners to the World Class athletes.
George has served as an International and National Referee at the most prestigious events.
Before his arrival to USA Mr. Pogosov was the Head Coach of the Ukrainian National Men’s Sabre Team (one of the strongest in the World).
Quite a few of his students have won various International, National, and NCAA medals; currently he is especially proud of two 2013 National Champions he is working with Monir Fahri and Samuel Kwong.
